Boston Magazine calls Melrose a 'haven for ex-urbanites'. Melrose was named one of the “Best Places to Live” by Boston Magazine as part of the “Starting Out” category in the March 2011 issue. The magazine breaks down the “best places to live” based on the stage of one’s life.
Melrose is a wonderful community just 7 miles north of Boston. We have a great transportation system and easy access into the City. We have a vibrant downton with restaurants and shops. Melrose offers many family acitivites; a great recreation department; 2 golf courses (1 private and 1 public); and the Fells Reservation which is a great spot for outdoor activities. We also hold many cultural events. As an example, The Melrose Symphony Orchestral Association is the oldest continuously performing volunteer orchestra in the United States.

Mold, as you probably already know, is a major health concern for home buyers and home sellers alike. Many organizations claim to remove mold from our homes with complete satisfaction. That's all well and good but I need more "confidence" in their removal and remediation systems.
That said, I would hire mold removal/remediation companies that are certified. Some organizations that offer certifications include the IICRC (the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration); IAQA (the Indoor Air Quality Association); IMS Labs; and, the AIHA (the American Industrial Hygiene Association). Check with the service provider and see if they're certified with any or all of these organizations.
Perhaps then you can be more confident about your mold issues.

Asbestos is dangerous when it is disturbed and the small particles are breathed into the lungs. Left alone, as I understand it, there is no worry. Asbestos was very common prior to 1980's and with the siding on homes built in the early 1900's. Google asbestos for suggestions on what to do with it. Your local community may have rules as to how to handle it if you are to remove it.

In Bolton you only have a few schools to choose from, only 1 High School which rates 9 out of 10, 2 Middle Schools rank 8 and 9 out of 10 and 3 Elementary Schools, which rank 9 and 10 out of 10. So anywhere you go in this town the schools are going to be ranked high. If you are looking specifically for a home in Bolton you should not have to worry about the neighboring town's and their school ranking your children wouldn't go there anyway.... more
If the seller or their Realtor knew for a fact that a home had been flooded this should have been disclosed as a material fact. However a Seller may elect to simply mark the Seller Property Disclosure "No Representation" which is why I've always counseled my buyers that this form is a worthless piece of paper and it's up to them to have a home thoroughly inspected. Buyers should never and I mean never depend on the seller or their agent for information, it' why Buyers are given a diligence period in which to thoroughly inspect a property. On the flip side I advise my sellers to always be honest as if their not there's a 99.9% chance that their going to be found out at which point the buyer no longer trusts them at all and the transaction is jeopardized and all they've managed to do is waste time and make enemies.

It would be unethical to steer a home buyer to a particular neighborhood, however I can say that the South Coast is a great place to live and there are an abundance of homes on the market. As far as hospitals, you can check out the sites I have listed which offer links to other sites that may be helpful.... more
You can certainly combine a two-family into a single family. You may also want to consider building your home from scratch, if your budget permits that. Where are you looking and what039;s your budget?... more
There are many programs out there to purchase a home and each has their own requirements. You should contact a mortgage broker for the correct answer. FHA minimum is 620. If you need a referral for a few mortgage brokers, let me know and I would be glad to recommend a few great people!
Thank you and good luck.... more
Hi Marck, I would drive around and meet people.
Ask those who live there.
Interview the school professionals, coaches, etc.
Park in a neighborhood and see who notices you sitting there in your car.
Walk and talk.
Of course choosing a local real estate pro can help you save a lot of time.
(Not me, I'm on the Cape, but I can help you choose a local pro when you are ready.)
