Hi Wayne -- Not sure I understand the question. Anti-team? As a successful American real estate agent (Florida), I always work together with other agents for the good of my customers. I must say, though, that my motivation is not to "win the area" or "all the awards". I have made the business decision not to have "2-3 assistants who do all the work" because I don't want to manage a mini-office. My business model is smaller and one that brings me ample income and maximum control so that I can ensure that the work being done in my name truly represents me. As one of the top producers in my 40-agent office, it works for me.
In terms of "why is America so capitalist?" Well, up until recently, we Americans have prided ourselves in our free-market, capitalist philosophy towards business. This country was founded on a belief in personal responsibility, a strong work ethic, private property ownership and above all an intense confidence in liberty as a governing principle. While we Americans do work for the common good of others in America and for peoples around the world, it is not done through the mechanism of collectivism but through the intense belief in individualism (i.e., individualism for everyone, everywhere).
Unfortunately, we are currently in a mini-battle here of class warfare over whether we will continue to stand on our foundation of individual hard work in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness or are whether we will trade it in for the promise of dubious financial security. Simply put, will be heed Benjamin Franklin's warning “Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security”, or adopt Karl Marx philosophy of "from each according to his means, to each according to his needs"? Only time will tell.
Now--back to real estate. It sounds like you've had a bad experience with someone who might not have been ethical. If you do business in America (in particular, Florida) and would like to work with an agent who is both ethical and competent, I'd be happy to talk with you.
Thanks for the opportunity to get all this off my chest--hope it helps you to understand my business philosophy and how at least some of us Americans feel about this country.
Best of luck.
