The absolute WORST qualification for entering real estate is "I like going to open houses."
This is what you should do.
1. There are over 20 ways to sell real estate. Do some research and compose a list of at least five of these way.
2. Use entertainment sites like Trulia or Zillow, OR access the local, public facing portal to the local mls and determine the volume of sales related to your list and the average sold prices.
3. Cruse a few communites (or attend open houses) and make a list of agents who appear donminate in the locatins of interes to you. Note what real estate brokerage they are associated with.
4. Call these agents and set up a meet and greet at the local Panera Bread. Yes, YOU will be buyer the coffee and cheese danish.
5. Ask these agents:
A. Do you receive compensation for recruiting agents? Yes - they will deliver sweet words. No - there is not benefit to them for deceiving you.
B. In what areas of your business do you spend the most time and energy? (It is not hosting open houses)
C. What was the hardest decision you had to make in focusing your business?
D. What do you whish you knew on day 1 that you know now.
E. Where do you find and how do you cultivate yoru buyers and sellers. (for many, this is a trade secret. Keep this question last, becuase it may prove to be a conversation ender.
Notice what is missing from that list of questions. Don't get distracted by what is not important.
Now, you have some more relevant information from which to work. Be aware, as a real estate professional you will be a small business owner. You must apply the same due diligents any small business owner would. At this point, with the knowledge you have and have gathered, create a srawman business plan. Magic does not happen. Complete the plan so you have some clue regarding what a real estate business look like.
Now, call those brokers you noted earlier and set an appointment.

Those who practice accidental real estate will average around 9 transactions annually. Those offices with effective training, systems, compensation, infrastructure, lead generation, and support will be averaging 17, 26, 35 transactions annually. THIS is the brokerage thai is not selling sweet words but are and can offer you the opportunity to create a success business. This is the one to listen to with all your atttention.
Share your business plan. Have the broker share how you will be channeled onto completing transactons IMMEDIATELY. This will most likely involve mentoring or being a team member.
You learn by doing.
You earn by finishing.
You do neither warming a stool in a classroom.
