Yesterday, Friday, I had an appointment with a lovely couple from Oregon. Oregon is wet as we al know, but my Palm Springs Valley
is not..again as we all know. However, we are currently in the midst of a rainy session..today is the second day, though it is clearing up.
"Should we still head out?" I asked when I called to touch bases.
"What??" she replied, "This little drizzle???"
So..you see, it's all your own perception. Tomatoe, tomahtoe..right? We met in the Historic Tennis
Club area of central Palm Springs. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods because it truly is walking distance to "The Village". What makes it truly special is the "local" feel..not too commercial, a wide array of home styles, and lots of people outside enjoying the lifestyle. Even in the rain! It really struck a chord with me because I was reminded that one person's idea of discomfort or joy may be entirely different than another persons'. Do not ASSUME to know what someone will like! The home we ended up at? Vacant, needs some TLC, but warm and charming..it "felt" like home to my clients!
So..when you are listing your home for sale, remember that it's all about perceptions. Try to appeal to the MOST buyers possible. Don't be too specific to what YOU like..try to put on your buyers' shoes and walk in them. Step out front of your home, look at it through buyers' eyes and remove anything that may distract them from "seeing themselves in your home."
